Twin Oaks Health Case Study: 69 Year Old Female

We had a client come to us as a 69-year-old female. She has a very high-stress busy job. She manages people. She was just feeling like she wanted to get her health back so that she had many more years to live and enjoy life and her grandkids. She was diagnosed with diabetes several years ago. So she’s on uncoupled diabetic medications.

She was considered obese in the hospital setting and that frustrated her and she was struggling to get any weight off. She had a lot of swelling happening in her ankles and her legs and was noticing that she was having some food sensitivities coming on since she’s been working with us. She did the detox program that we felt would work well for her and took the supplements that we felt her body needed at the time based on her blood work. She has been able to drop 23 pounds, so she’s pretty excited about that. And she officially is no longer labeled obese by her main provider in her paperwork. So that made her very excited. She’s been able to cut back on her diabetic medication. Her A1C level, which is your blood sugar over three months, was at a 10 when she first started working with us, it is down to a 6.6 which is pretty amazing. So she has little way to go. You’re still considered diabetic when your A1C is above 5.7. But we hope to keep working with her to get that number down. She has been able to get off medications fully. And then like I said, reduce her diabetic medications. She also has brought her blood pressure down immensely. She’s feeling like she has a lot more energy. She’s not dealing with the swelling as much and she just overall is just feeling a lot better. And it’s just really awesome to see somebody at this age be able to turn around some things that have been lingering for quite some time for her. So it’s been a real success.

Everyone wants a magic diet to fix their digestion—one that eliminates bloating, stops gas, and makes everything run smoothly. But here’s the truth: there isn’t one. No single diet works for everyone. Your gut is unique, shaped by your microbiome, past diet, stress levels, and even medications like antibiotics. Natural Ways to Heal Leaky Gut: A Functional Medicine Approach

Leaky gut syndrome, also known as intestinal permeability, occurs when the lining of the small intestine becomes damaged, allowing toxins, undigested food particles, and bacteria to leak into the bloodstream. This triggers chronic inflammation, digestive issues, and even autoimmune reactions. While conventional medicine is still catching up to the importance of gut health, functional medicine recognizes leaky gut as a root cause of many chronic conditions, including bloating, fatigue, skin issues, and joint pain.

The Real Reason You Have Chronic Diarrhea (And How to Fix It Naturally)

If you find yourself racing to the bathroom, it’s more than just an inconvenience—it’s a sign that your gut is out of balance.
