How To Stay Focused On Your Health

This past Wednesday my son had his last church night for the summer.

As any typical church program would have… there was an array of scrawny kiddos all in a line.

There were the tall kids, the short kids, the kids who didn’t know where they were, why they were there, and wanted a snack.

And then of course shining like the sun, perfect in every way was my boy. Obviously the cutest of the bunch (that was until he laid down on the floor to look at something).

But, he was still the cutest. 😉

While all the parents and grandparents were watching, I could not help but be thankful for these moment. Grateful for the gifts I have blessed with.

What did I notice the most?  I was only watching my boy. I was focused. Truth be told, I didn’t really care what the other kids were doing.

I wanted to watch the one who meant the most to me.

As a result, I was fully present for the whole 5 min he was on stage. AND I remember every bit of it.

At that moment I was focused. Paying attention to ONE thing and one thing ONLY.

How does this apply to life?

There was a time not too long ago, when I was unfocused on everything.

I was very very very busy. Busy for days and weeks on end. Maybe you know the feeling?

At the end of the day, I thought about what I had accomplished.

My answer was often disappointing. I felt like I was simply spinning my wheels. Never getting anywhere.

What I have applied to my life for the past 2 years is to take a different approach.

Forcing myself to focus on the task at hand.

The secret is FOCUS.

Focus on what is important to you.

Focus on what you want out of life. Let everything else go by the wayside.

If you feel like you are being stretched too thin and always rushing from one event to the next…

That is a sure symptom of being over-committed and unfocused.

The reality is, if you allow distractions to come into your life, it will prevent you from accomplishing what is truly valuable. It makes you ineffective.

Put down your phone. Stop checking your email. Stop listening to the news and trying to work at the same time. Stop saying yes to everything!

Here’s What You Do Next:
1. Take a day where you turn your phone OFF. Not on silent, but OFF!
2. Say NO to the next thing you are asked to participate in.
3. Commute to work with the radio off. Spend that time thinking.

FOCUS.

Sometimes distractions can be your close friends and family.

Just because they call right now, doesn’t mean you have to answer right now.

Call them back when you have free time.

STAY FOCUSED
