What does it mean to have a healthy immune system? Most people know that when you’re immune system is optimal, you don’t get sick and your white blood cell count is normal. The vast majority of the immune system lives in the gut, so it is important to have a lot of variety in your diet. Eating fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, healthy proteins, healthy fats… and in a variety of colors- the reds, the yellows, the greens, and the purples. All of these are going to feed the bacteria that live in your gut. It is also important to take a probiotic with many different bacteria as this gives your gut variety. Staying hydrated will allow your gut to function properly.
Decreasing stress on the body by not drinking excessive caffeine, decreasing sugar intake and decreasing your alcohol consumption are probably things you have heard before. But the matter of fact is, that in order to have a healthy immune system, we have to actually do this! Consuming more than 50 grams of sugar in a day (including artificial sweeteners) destroys your gut health.
